it no longer has power over us, so we can choose to live in submission to God and His ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:25px\">Two Masters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">In life we have two options, or \u201cmasters\u201d, that we can choose to serve: sin or righteousness. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ellagrace.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/aug-devo-wk-3-insta.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-368\" width=\"470\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ellagrace.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/aug-devo-wk-3-insta.png 940w, https:\/\/ellagrace.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/aug-devo-wk-3-insta-300x251.png 300w, https:\/\/ellagrace.blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/aug-devo-wk-3-insta-768x644.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Whoever we obey determines who our master is and dictates the paths we take and our choices about how we live our life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">The consequence of following sin is death (Romans 6:23), but the result of following righteousness and obedience to God is life and goodness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">As Christians, we are called to choose righteousness instead of our sinful desires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:25px\">So how do we live out obedience to righteousness?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">By keeping God first above all other things (Matthew 6:33).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">By setting our minds on things of the Spirit, so that we can walk by the Spirit instead of setting our minds on things of the flesh (Romans 8:5).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">By casting off the old self and choosing to put on the new self (Ephesians 4:22-32).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">By taking every thought captive and comparing it to the Word (2 Corinthians 10:5).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">By having our minds renewed through reading the Word frequently (Romans 12:1).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li style=\"font-size:18px\">By giving thanks to God in all things (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1553729784-e91953dec042?ixlib=rb-4.0.3&amp;ixid=M3wxMjA3fDB8MHxzZWFyY2h8NXx8YmlibGUlMjByZWFkaW5nfGVufDB8fDB8fHww&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=crop&amp;w=600&amp;q=60\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:25px\">Free to Choose<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">While we\u2019re here on earth, we will still have sinful desires and the capacity to choose sin, but since we are free from sin\u2019s power, we are free to choose the right path and right actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Each day we make choices to either abide in Christ and follow His leading, or to walk in the flesh and follow after unholy desires and the false idols of our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.unsplash.com\/photo-1447966129673-88517d4367f0?ixlib=rb-4.0.3&amp;ixid=M3wxMjA3fDB8MHxzZWFyY2h8Mjh8fGZyZWV8ZW58MHx8MHx8fDA%3D&amp;auto=format&amp;fit=crop&amp;w=600&amp;q=60\" alt=\"\" width=\"551\" height=\"256\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Even things that are seemingly innocent and not inherently wrong can become sin when they take first place in our lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">When we place things like money, status and notoriety, success, or even entertainment and relaxation, as main goals of our lives, these things become masters over us that we live our entire lives to serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">The Bible tells us that those who take another god for themselves will have multiplied sorrows (Psalm 16:4).
